More on the Media Roundup

I plan on making the Media Roundup a monthly feature.  I’m going to expanded it into the following sections:

Podcasts – I’ll keep the list of podcasts I listen to up-to-date here.  I’m always looking for new shows. If you see something you think I might like based on what I’m listening to, comment!

TV Shows – The list of shows we watch regularly doesn’t change very often.  It’s about 6 or 7 shows at last count.  At some point I might write up something about the shows I don’t watch regularly, but I do enjoy quite a bit.  That would include shows like Time Warp, Modern Marvels, How It’s Made, Iron Chef America, Good Eats, and Attack of the Show.

Books – I’ll include both Kindle books and the other kind.  One thing I forgot to mention yesterday is I’m also trying to read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse in German.  It’s slow going.

Audiobooks – These days most of the audiobooks I’m listening to come from podiobooks.com. If not Podiobooks, they come from Audible.com.  Speaking of Podiobooks, there’s a few things I forgot to mention yesterday.  Last week I listened to Number One with a Bullet by Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff. Some of the characters were a little annoying, and Nemcoff read everything with a really intense tone, even if it wasn’t appropriate. But the story was pretty good, and it’s probably worth the time.   I also listened to the The Silk Code by Paul Levinson.  It was an interesting and creative story, and I definitely plan on checking out more of Paul Levinson’s stuff. Yesterday I finished Earthcore by Scott Sigler.  I look forward to the followup, Mt. Fitzroy, which should start in February of 2010.  I’m now 2/3 of the way through Little Brother.  This is a great book! You can read it free or buy the audiobook. It’s well worth it.  I was surprised to see Cory Doctorow doesn’t read it, but the reader he got does a good job.  I highly recommend buying this audiobook and moving it to the top of your ipod queue.

Websites – Do people really use Bookmarks?  I bookmark things all the time, but I hardly ever go back through them.  My Firefox 3 Unsorted Bookmarks list is a vast wasteland.  When I need to go to a particular website I either type the URL from memory or I google it.

Web Video – BJJ, Submission Grappling, a multitude of how-tos, comedy, Hulu, etc. Time to cancel cable?

Blogs – I read (or at least scan) a pretty wide variety of blogs.  I’ll share some of the gems from time-to-time.

Periodicals – I mentioned yesterday that I’m down to just two magazines.  Checking the mail later put the lie to that. At the very least I’d have to add American Hunter and American Rifleman.  I’m not a regular newspaper reader, but my favorite paper is the Financial Times.
