Last week in Attachment I mentioned my friend Dave from Orlando. Well, he’s not from Orlando, he’s from England, but I met him in O-town. It’s odd that he’s coming up for a second time here because I haven’t talked to him in years.
One day I asked him he liked hockey, which is my favorite team sport. He said something like, “Not one for watching sport. It’s not a particularly British thing to do. We participate in sport.”
Being a typical American I had always been one for watching. I’ve certainly never played ice hockey before.
It’s been 6 or 7 years since that conversation, and oh how things have changed. I haven’t watched a single race this year, I watched two hockey games, and one baseball game. But I’m a participant now in the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling, as are 95% of my friends.
My, how utterly British of me.
