Just in time for the week I’m about to take off from BJJ, I was feeling much better (and hydrated) in the gym tonight. This week of butterfly sweeps has been good for me. The butterfly guard is an under-utilized part of my jiu jitsu game. I normally avoid it because of my knee problems, but when done properly an effective butterfly guard sweep shouldn’t really stress the knees. Tonight we focused on moving our hips under our opponent before initiating the sweep. Simply placing the fulcrum in the right place makes all the difference.
